Our Story

In 2020, my son, husband and I, along with our two dogs, Emma and Sierra, embarked on a journey from Chicago to North Carolina to start a new life as homesteaders—and I use that term loosely!

We bought a fixer-upper that needed a complete remodel.  Our adventure in homesteading began with twelve chickens, we were so excited about the idea of fresh eggs—until we realized it would take three to four months before we’d see a single one. Unfortunately, our flock quickly dwindled as we learned the hard way about the predators lurking nearby.

Determined to bring life back to our land, we rebuilt our pond, stocked it with fish, and watched as otters came and went, enjoying their unexpected feast. Through it all, we kept pushing forward, embracing the challenges and rewards of country living.

With my husband’s passion for baking and my love for chocolate, we decided to turn our creativity into something delicious—our own gourmet cookie business. And what better way to honor our journey than to name it after our very first chicken, Bluebell?
